NEW WORK ALERT! Homebound heroes: A call to inaction
As the holidays approach, and we are staring our 8th month of social distancing in the eyes, we’re also getting really, really, sick of staring at our own four walls, our own families, roommates, selves. And we need a reminder that it’s not the person who drives 3,000 miles to have turkey with their extended family that’s the hero. It’s the person who’s home, cooking a roast chicken for one. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is nothing at all.
So we joined with our friends at LVLY and Pond5 to fight the spread of Covid-19 with a simple message: be a hero, do nothing, stay home. The work takes a peak at all the homebound heroes helping to keep the pandemic from spreading even further, by literally, doing nothing at all. Normally ads are calls to action. The ‘Homebound Heroes’ pro bono campaign is a call to inaction.
Everyone pitched in, LVLY donated their time and the visuals were sourced primarily from Pond5 stock footage, who gave a generous discount, while still ensuring their creators (who were hit hard by the pandemic) were paid. Even Director Walter Smith’s family provided personal footage in order to exceed Covid-19 production guidelines.
My own brother died of Covid-19 during the production of this video, making the realness of the pandemic really hit home. Understandably, this passion project became very personal to the entire agency. Truth is, sharing your holiday table with a video screen this year is one way to make sure the chair isn’t completely empty next year.
